White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany accused reporters in the White House press corps of seeking stardom over information in an interview with Fox News's Sean Hannity on Thursday.

"People are out to elevate their stardom as a reporter, to have their moment, to get that viral moment ... but, look, that’s not what this is about," McEnany said.

McEnany is the Trump administration's fourth press secretary, succeeding Stephanie Grisham, chief of staff for first lady Melania Trump. The administration has had a strained relationship with the press, with the president accusing reporters and media outlets of being "fake news" since before he even took office.

President Trump has sparred with a number of reporters, calling out journalists face to face on Twitter and in interviews.

McEnany said she believes people who watch the press briefings can distinguish members of the press who appear self-seeking.

"It’s easily identifiable by the American people, there are some reporters who come in, and they truly want that information, they’ll come to my office, and they'll say, 'Look, this is what I want to know from the president.' And I'll go to him, I'll get the information, I'll convey it to them in a briefing," McEnany said. "There are others who aren’t interested in that, who it’s about the viral moment, and I think the American people who watch can very much discern those interested in getting information to the people and those interested in serving themselves."
