Omarosa Manigault Newman, a former aide to Trump, said that Harris's presence on the ballot will annoy the president in ways he won't be able to control.
"He's not well,” Manigault Newman told the Independent. “He’s his worst enemy, so the Biden-Harris ticket is formidable because it's going to trigger him in ways where he'll be all over the place."
Manigault Newman, who had a public fallout with Trump after leaving her post, added that the president "can't help himself when it comes to self-destructing."
The former Apprentice contestant was fired from her role by Trump's then-chief of staff John Kelly in 2017. Shortly after, she released a tell-all book titled Unhinged: An Insider Account of the Trump White House, which was full of negative claims about Trump and his staff, including accusations of Trump being racist.
Former Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, who ran the 2008 presidential campaign of late Sen. John McCain, said Trump's 2020 campaign is taking place in a "fundamentally different era" than Democrats, specifically citing Trump's messaging at suburban housewives.
“He has [1950s television housewife] June Cleaver, I think, pictured in the kitchen, being surrounded by large menacing black men," Schmidt said. "He’s explicitly saying that the black people are coming to your suburbs to live and do violence to you."
Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said he was curious to see how the Trump campaign will position itself to run against Harris, who he calls a "very sophisticated, dominant African American woman."
"I guarantee you Donald Trump has something that he's gonna drop that’s gonna make everybody go: ‘What the f---?'" Steele said.
